Our Airbnb
Our trip to the Dominican Republic was the definition of a relaxing, tropical vacation. We stayed in the most beautiful Hacienda Los Guayacanes that we booked through Airbnb and it had absolutely everything you needed and more. Firstly, we had a personal chauffeur, Dagoberto, that picked us up from the Airport and drove us to the property (and also stopped at the grocery store for us to grab some food on the way in). We had the option of using his services during our entire stay, but we decided to spend most of our time at the property (and you'll understand why after reading this!).
The property lies on a couple acres and was filled with beautiful gardening, a pool and jacuzzi, kayaks, hammocks, multiple patios, an outdoor shower/bathroom, a kitchen and outdoor dining room, and the best part - our own private beach and pier. Amplest, the groundskeeper, was always there to upkeep the nature, bring out the kayaks, start a bonfire, and give us a tour of the amazing property that outstretched farther than we thought - he would even climb the trees to pick coconuts and cut them open for us to eat and drink! He too would join us for some activities and although there was a language barrier, we tried our best to get to know him and learn about his life and upbringing.
There was also a personal chef, Dora, and her daughter Michelle that often helped, who cooked all of our meals for us (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) using the groceries that we bought. Throughout the week we got to try authentic Dominican dishes including fish, rice and beans, mangú, chicken wings, and other amazing foods. We encouraged her to cook what she wanted because we wanted to try the local cuisine, however she was happy to make anything we desired. If we ever ran out of drinks or food, they would insist on getting it for us so that we could spend more time enjoying our vacation.
I am still so in awe at how kind and gracious everyone was, and this trip has such a special place in my heart. I loved that we got the opportunity to stay in a home that allowed us to connect with locals and support the communities rather than giving money to a huge resort in Punta Cana. Many people travel to the Dominican Republic for the party scene but this was a great experience to connect with nature and people, while also getting 5-star treatment. We all parted with tears in our eyes, exchanging contacts/social medias, and promising that we would visit again one day (something that I still want to do!). If you do choose to visit, I highly encourage you to bring extra cash to compensate for the amazing services that are provided by all of the workers that work on the property!
Here's a short video of more content regarding our stay:
If you're like us and choose to stay on the property all week, all you need is some swimsuits, pajamas and some cover-ups/loungewear. However, being the fashionista that I am, I decided to plan out my outfits and dress up every night just for the fun of it because why not?! If you're someone who chooses to spend more time out and about, I would bring more casual items such as linens, tank tops, sandals, midi dresses, and any other items that would allow you to stay cool in the heat.
Otherwise, this is the perfect time to play dress up in the comfort of having a couple acres to yourself and making your boyfriend or friend take some cute pictures for you all week!
