In summer 2023, I got the opportunity to visit Sag Harbor in the New York Hamptons for a friend's bachelorette party for a long weekend. The Hamptons weren't somewhere I envisioned myself traveling to in the near future, but wow did I fall in love it - I can understand why all the wealthy New Yorkers flea the city for a quiet, peaceful summer. Sag Harbor is the perfect place for a getaway where you can spend your days at the beach, shop at the town's boutiques, stroll through the beautiful neighborhoods, eat delicious seafood, and simply spend time with your family or friends. One thing I would urge you to do is rent a car for your trip. The town is very quiet and I would imagine that there aren't many Ubers around. Plus, with a car you have a lot more freedom to explore nearby towns on the peninsula and have more options of things to do!
We stayed in the most beautiful Airbnb that fit the six of us bridal party perfectly. It was extremely spacious with 3 bedrooms, a large living room/kitchen, a patio and backyard, and it was just the perfect coastal home for our trip. The house was about a 10-15 minute walk to the town and in the perfect location - the neighborhood that you walk through to get there is just so gorgeous. Just down the street we had a little market where we could buy some snacks or buy food that was made to order. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who is traveling in a group and wants a great place to hang out with your friends!
Gibson Beach
This beach was about a 20 minute drive from our Airbnb. The beach was fairly empty when we were there (granted it was still May and not the warmest weather), but it's such a large beach that I can't imagine it would be too packed in the dead of summer. It's also a residential area with no restaurants so that also keeps away the crowds. If you want a peaceful day at the beach, this one is for you!
Walking on Main Street
Sag Harbor's main street is lined with the cutest local boutiques and shops that you can spend your afternoons walking through. There is a beautiful harbor at the end of the street where you can sit by the water and enjoy the views. I highly suggest getting up super early and going to watch the sunrise!
Wölffer Estate Vineyard, 139 Sagg Rd, Sagaponack, NY 11962
You can't go to Long Island without visiting one of its vineyards and this one happens to be 15 minutes away from Sag Harbor's main street. The estate and vineyards were absolutely stunning. We enjoyed a wine tasting with live music and they also brought out some champagne for the bride!
Montauk Lighthouse/Beach
One afternoon we decided to get out of Sag Harbor and go explore Montauk, which was about a 40 minute drive away. There is a lighthouse in Montauk that is really popular (that we saw but didn't go in it because non of us wanted to pay lol), and you can also spend some time at the beach. This town is definitely more well-known and busy, and has more options for restaurants and such, but I prefered Sag Harbor because of how quaint and local is was.
Coffee
Grindstone Coffee & Donuts, 7 Main St, Sag Harbor, NY 11963
A great place for a sweet breakfast and a good cup of coffee!
Sagtown Coffee, 78 Main St, Sag Harbor, NY 11963
A cute, coastal coffee shop that has some great snacks, smoothies and pastries as well! They have a cute outdoor patio to sit and take a break in your day.
A beautiful and modern European-style bakery that sells fresh break and other baked goodies.
Food
We ate here our first night in Sag Harbor to kick off the bachelorette weekend. It's definitely a fanicer and pricier spot (like most dinner restaurants are in the Hamptons) but our waiter was entertaining and friendly, and we had some great food. I was in the mood for a light meal so I got a ceasar salad and fries, but it seemed like they had some great seafood options!
Harbor Market and Kitchen, 184 Division St, Sag Harbor, NY 11963
This was the market that was right down the street from our Airbnb! Great spot if you need to grab some groceries, snacks, or a quick meal.
Sag Pizza, 103 Main St, Sag Harbor, NY 11963
If you're craving a nice comfort meal in the middle of shopping on the main street, this place is for you! It's also one of the cheaper places to eat in this area.
Think coastal grandma, but make it chic. Lots of whites, linens, light sweaters, and button ups will fit you right in. I would suggest keeping your outfits mostly casual, but you can dress up a bit at night. After all, it is a wealthy area so most people are dressed accordingly, but keep it classy. Just in the previous week, I had bought my first designer purchase ever in NYC, my Chanel loafers, so I can't lie and say that I didn't fit right in with those. I would also suggest bringing some athleisure for running/working out (if you have the time/want to), a swimsuit for the beach, and some coverups! Below are some visuals of what I wore!
